When the Lungs Become Ill
Lung diseases can significantly impair quality of life. The most common include asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD, pneumonia, allergies, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer.
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the airways that is often associated with shortness of breath, coughing, or wheezing. A chronic cough should also be taken seriously. Smokers, in particular, often suffer from persistent inflammation of the bronchi.
COPD is now one of the most prevalent diseases. The condition leads to permanent narrowing of the airways and causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, and reduced exercise tolerance.
Allergies, particularly seasonal symptoms during pollen season, are also a focus of the telephone forum.
Early detection can save lives. Another focus of the telephone forum is lung cancer. Smoking remains the biggest risk factor, but environmental pollution and toxins can also contribute to the disease. Since lung cancer often doesn’t cause symptoms until late in the disease, symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, or weight loss are frequently underestimated. Prof. Schreiber and Dr. Lücke provide information on early detection options and modern diagnostic procedures.
Modern Therapies – From Antibodies to Robotic Surgery
The treatment of lung diseases has advanced significantly in recent years. Modern antibody therapies and targeted therapies enable precise treatments, for example for severe asthma or certain types of cancer.
Surgical procedures are also constantly evolving. Modern robot-assisted methods now allow for particularly precise and minimally invasive procedures on the lungs.
